I. PYTHON INTRODUCTION
Python is free to use; even for commercial products!
Python was created by Guido van Rossum. It was first released in 1991. Python is an easy to learn, powerful programming language. Python’s elegant syntax and dynamic typing, make it an ideal language for scripting and rapid application development. Python is an interpreted language, which can save you considerable time during program development because no compilation and linking are necessary. And, as proof that Python was created to be fun, Python was named after the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) show “Monty Python’s Flying Circus!".
II. PYTHON HISTORY
III. PYTHON TODAY
The traditional implementation of Python was written in the C programming language and is nicknamed CPython. Recent releases of CPython include Python 3.2.2 and Python 2.7.3.
Alternative implementations of Python include the following:
CodeSkulptor, created by four Rice University professors (Joe Warren, Scott Rixner, John Greiner, and Stephen Wong), is a new browser-based Python programming environment that makes developing interactive applications in Python simple. These applications involve windows whose contents are graphical and respond to buttons, the keyboard and the mouse. Coursera offers a free eight week CodeSkulptor course, "An Introduction to Interactive Programming in Python".
IPython which is Python plus mathematical and graphics software for scientists, engineers, and mathematicians.
VPython which is the Python programming language plus a 3D graphics module called Visual.
